Alcenia Byrd Obituary, Death – On April 10, 2023, at the age of 78 and a lifetime resident of Paducah, Kentucky, Alcenia Patricia Byrd passed away peacefully in the company of her family at home. In Cairo, Illinois on July 4, 1944, Alcenia Moody was born to her parents, Ezell Moody, Sr. and Almeda Versa Moody, who are no longer with us. Her parents have since died away. Before she retired from her role as a Correctional Officer with the Illinois Department of Corrections, she had served in that capacity for many years. Some of Alcenia’s favorite things to do included going on adventures, reading books, working in her garden, and listening to music.
In addition to that, she found that engaging in conversation with her friends and spending time with her family brought her a great deal of joy. She was a faithful member of the Calvary Apostolic Church and attended services there frequently. Two of Alcenia’s daughters have married and continue to raise families: Cozetta “Cozy” Hurston and her husband Scott, who live in Clarksville, Tennessee, and LaVonda Whitaker and her husband Mike, who live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She also leaves behind four sisters, Tollie Johnson of Hazel Crest, Illinois, Darryl Johnson of Cairo, Illinois, and Hobert Lambert and his wife Theodosia of Paducah, as well as three sons: Ronald Johnson, Sr. and his wife Edith of Columbus, Ohio; Hobert Lambert and his wife Theodosia of Paducah; and Darryl Johnson of Cairo, Illinois.
Her husband, Lynn Sherman Byrd, her brother George Sampson, one grandson, and one great-grandson all passed away before her. Her legacy lives on in the form of one grandson and one great-grandson.
