David Leonard Horn Obituary, Death – David Leonard Horn died abruptly on the evening of April 10, 2023, at Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in Cimarron, Colorado. David was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, son-in-law, grandfather, and pal. David Horn was born in Eastland, Texas in 1957 to Jack and Joyce Horn, but grew up in western Colorado. He met his future wife, Gay Lynn, at the YWAM base in Cimarron in 1976. They married in 1982, had three children, and settled in the Montrose area. David has been building log homes for 22 years, first with Frontier Log Homes and then with Colorado Log Homes. David and Gay Lynn became the administrators of Youth With a Mission in Cimarron, Colorado, in 2004, where he dutifully served until his death.
When he wasn’t working, David was generally elbow deep in one of his numerous interests. He was frequently seen outside gardening, golfing, tending bees, hunting, smoking meat, or fishing, to mention a few activities. He was passionate about not only his hobbies, but also about life and the connections that make it worthwhile to live. David lived his life with consistent honesty, upright character, a steadfast love for people, and, ultimately, a heart after the Lord. He was always looking for ways to give and demonstrate Jesus’ love to everyone he met, from strangers to family and friends he valued.
David has been described as a cheerful giver, a patient listener, a “second father,” a genuine and loyal friend, a blessing, a servant leader, and a true brother in Christ.
One of David’s greatest joys was preparing and empowering young people to “go into all the world and make disciples,” as Jesus had instructed.
David had an impact on the lives of innumerable people, both directly and indirectly. Through his trust in God, he has been an encouragement to many, and he actually lived in praise and service to Him.
His father, Jack, his mother, Joyce, and his sister, Debbie, all died before him. His wife, Gay Lynn, his sister, Diane, his three children and their spouses, Elizabeth & Jeremiah Greenfield, Mark & Hannah Horn, John & Jordin Horn, ten grandchildren, father- and mother-in-law, Clarence (Ed) & Shirley Wood, cherished in-laws, nieces, nephews, and dear friends near and far, survive him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be donated to Youth With a Mission (please write “Memorial Fund” in the remark line).
