Dean Shelton Obituary, Death – On September 1, 2020, Dean Tyler Shelton, who resided in Lynchburg, passed away. He was married to Dale Irby Shelton for 61 years before they divorced. Dean Shelton was the son of Melvin Tyler Shelton and Mary Gatewood Shelton, both of whom passed away before their son was born. Dean was born on August 23, 1937 in Pittsylvania County. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and their wives: Mark Shelton and his wife, Hannah, of Amherst, and Glen Shelton and his wife, Kristi, of Madison Heights. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Jon Shelton and his wife, Erin, of Lynchburg, Allie Pizzichillo and her husband, Lou, of Lindenhurst, New York, Tony Rice and his wife, Cole, of Lynchburg, and Tiffany Coffey and her husband, Ted
Dean attended and graduated from “The Apprentice School” at Newport News Shipyard after completing his high school education at Gretna High School. He began his career at GE in 1960 as a machinist, and he resigned from GE/Ericsson in 2002 as an Industrial Engineer. His time there spanned more than four decades. He attended the Chestnut Hill Baptist Church on a regular basis as a member. Dean had an appreciation for good music and was a cheerleader for all kinds of sports. He spent the majority of his adulthood engaged in the sport of golf. He took pleasure in spending time with his family and took part in all of the activities they did together.
On the Saturday, September 5, 2020, at one o’clock in the afternoon, there will be a funeral ceremony held at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. The burial will be a private affair. If you are unable to attend the service in person, it will be broadcast live on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/christcommunitychurchmadisonheightsvirginia/?ref=bookmarks. If seating is limited due to limits on gatherings, there will only be a limited number of seats available. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Chestnut Hill Baptist Church, which may be found at 5225 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia 24502.
