Freda Thompson Obituary, Death – After a protracted battle with illness, the 85-year-old victim passed away in comfort on September 7, 2022. Freda was the fourth child to be born to Clarence D. and Pauline Gibson Cooper and the fourth child overall. She was born in Waynesburg, Ohio. She had a happy childhood on the farm near Mechanicstown, Ohio, and she was especially pleased of the fact that she could assist her father in the fields while they farmed. She was raised in a family that was very close to one another, and she has remained in a loving relationship with her parents, sisters, and brother throughout their entire lives. Freda was a proud member of the Augusta High School class of 1955, which received their diplomas.
Freda worked at the Sears & Roebuck Company at the Belden Village location for a good number of years. She liked a wide variety of handicrafts and artistic pursuits over the course of her life, including decoupage, cross stitching, cake decorating, sewing, making stained glass hanging lamps, ceramics ranging from slip to painted figurines, and stitching plastic canvas coasters, of course! She had a genuine gift for filling her house with nice trinkets, portraits of her family, and wall hangings, all of which came together to make a gorgeous and friendly home that was commended by many people who came to visit.
In addition to Freda’s parents, her devoted husband James R. Thompson, who passed away in the year 2000, was one of the people who came before her in death. In addition to this, she was preceded in death by her infant sister Ola Mae, as well as her sisters Emma Lou Thompson, Beverly Howell, and most recently Juanita Whitehouse. Freda is survived by her brother, Clarence Cooper, and his fiancee, Marla Frazier, both of Minerva; her sister, Geri Long, of Carrollton; and Carol Myers, of Scio. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, John Whitehouse, of Canton. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by a large number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Judy Wheeler of Canton, Barb (Tony) Ianni of North Canton, Ed (Perla) Thompson of Louisiana/Mexico, and Shari Prescott of Bath are her children. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Rita Thompson (Ryan Baker) of Canton, Rachel Prescott (Jon Vondriska) of Bath, Sara Prescott of Bath, Jenamarie DuBois (John DuBois, D.D.S.) of Dublin, Ohio, Jimmy I
The family would like to express our deep gratitude to the caring personnel at Windsor Medical for the kind and kind attitude they’ve taken over the past three years while they’ve cared for our mother, especially during Covid when we couldn’t be there with her. This is very important to us because we were unable to be there with her when she received her Covid treatment. We would also like to express our gratitude to Dr. Maria Young and ZaNita, her medical assistant, for the tender care that they have provided to our mother over the past 13 years.
