Helen Thomas Obituary, Dearth – After a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer, Helen L. Thomas, age 93, died away on April 10, 2023 in the comfort of her own home. Edward S. Thomas, the man she had been married to for 63 years, passed away in 2014. She is survived by her children, Edward R. Thomas and his wife Mary of Arlington, Texas; Richard W. Thomas and his wife Susan of Bixby, Oklahoma; Kathleen A. MacDonald of Novi, Michigan;
And also, Anne M. Thomas of Worcester, Massachusetts; 16 grandkids, 13 great-grandchildren, and a large number of nieces and nephews. Richard W. Thomas and his wife Susan are from Bixby, Oklahoma. In addition to her grandson Paul F. Thomas, she was also succeeded in death by her sister Gertrude “Sis” Colby. Helen was born on May 25, 1929 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her parents, Edward Callahan and Alice (Favreau), both passed away before she was born.
She attended St. Stephen’s High School and had a successful high school career in 1947 after growing up on Grafton Hill. After graduating high school, she found employment at BayState Savings bank, where she remained for the next 20 years. Additionally, she was employed in the payroll department of Iandoli’s and Honey Farms. She was a passionate swimmer when she was younger, and even later in life, she continued to lead an active and lively lifestyle. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, was well-known for playing a game of golf whenever she had the opportunity, and also liked to read.
Additionally, Helen enjoyed the craft of crocheting and sewing. She maintained her relationships with her pals from her early days in Worcester, and they would get together to play bridge with each other. When Mary and her husband Ed reached retirement age, they would go to the coast of Cape Cod to their home in West Yarmouth. Their house was a meeting place for their family, which provided her joy consistently throughout her life.
Helen was a devout Christian and had been attending St. Mary’s Church in North Grafton for the last 65 years. Her devotion to the church was unwavering. At the Roney Funeral Home, which is located at 152 Worcester Street in North Grafton, Massachusetts 01536; visitation will be held on Friday, April 21 from 5 to 7 p.m., and everyone are invited to attend. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 22nd at 11am at St. Mary’s Church, which is located at 17 Waterville St., N. Grafton, Massachusetts 01536.
