Alter’s age at death was 71. He considered the city of Worcester to be his permanent residence. Roger Alter, the son of Joseph and Minnie Geraldine (Gass) Alter, made his debut into the world in the city of Boston.
Minnie Geraldine (Gass) Alter was his mother. He has been a resident of Worcester for perhaps in the neighbourhood of thirty-five years at this point in time. Roger received his bachelor of engineering degree from Boston University, where he also received his education. The retail industry has been very good to Roger professionally, and he has enjoyed a long and fruitful career there.
He worked for a considerable amount of time as a manager for the Regis company, which is in the business of supplying large retail locations with the periodically required inventory counting services. In this capacity, he was responsible for overseeing the company’s operations. His responsibilities included overseeing the employees of the chain.
His most recent position was in the sales department of Better Electric, where he worked for a while before moving on to other opportunities. Roger was a skilled balloon artist who fashioned animal sculptures out of balloons, much to the joy of both children and adults. His creations brought smiles to everyone’s faces. All of those who were able to see his masterpieces were left with a pleasant expression on their faces. Sheilagh Crotty is one of the many close friends of Roger’s who continue to live in Worcester after he moves away.
In addition, his brother Leonard Alter, who lived in Salem, passed away before him. He was predeceased by both of his brothers. There will be a gathering in honour of Roger and to pay homage to his life on Thursday, April 20, from four to six o’clock in the evening at the Athy Memorial Home in Worcester, which can be found at 111 Lancaster Street.
