Shirley Kavanaugh Obituary, Death – Shirley Ann Long Kavanaugh Jan. 5, 1925 – June 29, 2021 On June 29, 2021, Shirley Ann Long Kavanaugh died away at her warm and welcoming home of more than 61 years. She was surrounded by her devoted family at the time of her passing. She was 96 years old at the time. Portland, Oregon, is where Shirley spent her entire life because that is where she was born.
She was the younger of the two children that Margaret and Leslie Long welcomed into the world. She began her educational career at The Madeline and continued there through the 12th grade, after which she received a full scholarship to the University of Portland to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. After receiving her diploma in June of 1948 and getting married in the same month, she did not waste any time getting started on her career as a nurse and raising her eight devoted children, Margaret, Melinda, Dennis, Peter, Danny, Kimberly, Mary Jo, and Joey, as well as their spouses, 21 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Margaret is the oldest of the eight children, and Joey is the youngest. Her mother and father, as well as her brother Jack, passed away before Shirley did.
She was an exceptional mother in addition to being an amazing golfer and bowler. As an RN, she worked for Multnomah County until 1989, when she took her retirement. All of the ceremonies will take place at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon. The viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a rosary at 10:30 a.m., and the funeral mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you kindly consider making a donation to the University of Portland School of Nursing in Shirley’s name.
